Former Chrysler CEO Nardelli Says Cerberus Would Have Saved The Automaker

It's been two years since Bob Nardelli Chrysler's CEO resigned, while the company was still owned by private equity firm Cerberus Capital Management LP, where he still works, but the executive of 63 still has the love of the Detroit automaker.

During an interview with the Detroit News, Dow Jones from the side of the last conference in New York, Nardelli said the Obama administration did not have to give Chrysler away from Fiat because he believes that Cerberus could do a better job of saving the car manufacturer .

Cerberus, which in 2007 bought Daimler Chrysler, was ousted by the failure of Obama in 2009 and the saga of the rescue. The government has also agreed to deal with the Fiat Group, which is 20 per cent stake in Chrysler LLC, in the end the Italians have grown 53.5 percent. Both groups of cars are now run under the guidance of Sergio Marchionne.

"If the government gave its treatment of a Fiat, we would do very well - really," Nardelli told the Detroit newspaper "There was no reason for them to give Chrysler away." former CEO of Chrysler, said.

Even accused the government that their actions during the massive bailout was "all theater and no substance" and that, instead of Fiat, Cerberus should get the most credit for turning Chrysler around:

"The fact is that we (Chrysler) alive when he could have gone down the drain. It will be on the defensive, but I think we have done everything," said Nardelli.

Nardelli added that Cerberus reduction of 5 billion in annual costs of the bottom line of Chrysler while he owns the company.

"We ended sadly furloughing 35,000 families, closed plants, free of non-productive assets, close some platforms. I think Chrysler is where it is because of what we managed to do, "he said.

Nardelli also said most Chrysler products that have received is already available, such as the Jeep Grand Cherokee, Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger, "was in progress when Cerberus was running the company."

One must ask: Is it sour grapes, or the Obama administration to get rid of the old regime, because, as Mr. Nardelli said he was a scapegoat easily accessible? Have your say in the comment box here.
