
Officially, it's just a concept, but the wording is Volkswagen press release hints at the production version of the Beetle was introduced in R 64-Frankfurt Motor Show, before taking the North American debut today at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
Developed by Volkswagen R GmbH - that is, the same people responsible for the Scirocco R and Golf R models, Beetle R is said to show "the potential of increasing sports version of the Beetle."
The company also claims that the 200 hp turbo 2.0-liter turbo Beetle "could offer a higher yield, similar to that of the Golf R and Scirocco R".
Although VW will not say what's under the hood, the 2.0 liter TFSI easily pump an additional 60-70 horsepower over the standard Turbo Beetle, as indicated by R GmbH Golf and Scirocco chamfered.
