New Lamborghini Gallardo LP 550-2 Spyder Brings Rear-Wheel Drive to Drop-Top Model



Once upon a time, sports cars and climb to the rear wheels are synonymous terms, but no more - especially when it comes to the Volkswagen Group, which essentially has built an empire of all types of front and all-wheel-drive models.

But sometimes, even the VW group collapses has a nice rear-wheel drive. Today, the brand new Lamborghini Gallardo LP 550-2 Spyder combines the open-top body with rear-wheel drive.

"With the Gallardo LP 550-2 Spyder, Lamborghini, we extend the range with a purist model, which adds a new dimension of driving pleasure," says Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Lamborghini.

"It will be of special interest to a very special group of customers who have a strong driving style and also to experience the pleasure of open-air driving," he said.

As its name implies, the Gallardo LP 550-2 Spyder is powered by 5.2 liter V10 engine tuned to the firm produce 550 horsepower.

Lamborghini says its engineers have made significant changes to adapt the car to rear-wheel drive as parameters for the specific application of the damper and aerodynamic adjustments to take into account the change in the distribution of forces.

The Gallardo LP 550-2 Spyder tips the scales at 1520 kg (3351 lbs) and can accelerate from zero to 100 km / h (62 mph) in 4.2 seconds en route to a top speed of 319 kmh (198 mph).
