Local XC2V Motors, which was selected by DARPA to replace the Humvee, 27, is not the only program underway in the U.S. Army for new vehicles.
The US Army Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center, or TARDEC for short, was also awarded the British firm Ricardo engineering contract to carry out tests of fuel efficient vehicles on the ground demonstrator (CEF) program.
EDF program was launched in late 2008 and its mission is to create a family of light tactical wheeled vehicles that will improve the technology of military vehicles, reducing fuel consumption and therefore the country's dependence on oil.
"The vehicle FED ALPHA is the culmination of the entire vehicle system, Ricardo approach," said Wes Scharmen, Ricardo chief engineer of the program for the Fed. "Any technology that made its way into the vehicle had been properly investigated, which has helped to achieve the objectives of the program for the fuel, and a distinguished military vehicle."
In July, ALPHA is displayed for two days in the courtyard of the Pentagon Centre. He has since successfully conducted military tests at Aberdeen Proving Grounds US Army in Maryland.
The next step in the development of the activities of ALPHA is a test cycle type in the real world, such as convoys, attacks in urban areas, cross country and prolonged inactivity, the likes of which will meet in the battlefield.
The key to its future development will be the Aberdeen Test Simulator Center floor - the world's largest car simulator that will test all aspects of vehicle performance in a controlled laboratory environment.
ALPHA is on display at the 2011 AUSA Annual Meeting and Exposition is the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC, 10-12, 10
