Ginetta Unveils New G60 Sports Car Powered by a Mustang-Sourced V6

Last week, Ginetta has announced that he would soon unveil a new sports car with a 310HP carbon fiber body. Well, we must admit, a small British car company has kept its promise by launching the G60, the first mid-engine model in its range from the G32 in 1989.

The only thing the new G60 shares its predecessor is the arrangement of the engine. The G60 offers carbon fiber tub and body depends on the Farbio GTS, which itself is based on 2002-Farboud GT.

Ginetta, Farbio acquired last March, the car has been redesigned with an emphasis on weight reduction. Apart from its carbon fiber construction, the new model Ginetta no power steering, power brakes, ABS and electronic stability control. Therefore, tipped the scales at just 1,100 kg (2425 lbs) or 400 kg (881 lbs) less than the GTS.

The 3.7-liter naturally aspirated V6 comes from the Ford Mustang and an estimated 310HP. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels through a manual gearbox six speeds and a Quaife limited slip differential, while the suspension uses triangles in the corners.

Even if the 310HP is not a boast today's car sports hall, light weight allows G60 to reach sub-4, 0 seconds 0-60 mph (0-96 km / h) time, Sprint, and a top speed of 165 is excees mph (265 km / h).

In addition, the G60 is more exclusive than most competitors because the Ginetta plans to only 50 units.

British carmaker Ginetta to Unveil a New 310HP, Carbonfiber Sportscar

Unless you are into boutique car manufacturers, there's a good chance you've never heard of Ginetta. Yet the British company has existed for more than half a century: it was founded by four brothers (Bob, Ivor, Trevers and Douglas Walklett) in 1958.

Since this isn’t a history lesson, we’ll move forwards a few decades. More specifically in 2005 when Ginetta was acquired by LNT Automotive, a company owned by businessman and racing driver Lawrence Tomlinson. Soon after, the moved the company to new premises and introduced a new car, the G50, while also announcing a one-make racing series.

This year seems to be a busy one for Ginetta. After unveiling the G55 racer in February, it subsequently launched the G40R lightweight (just 795 kg) road car that is powered by a 175HP, 2.0-liter four-cylinder.

Now the carmaker has announced that it is planning to unveil another, more hardcore road car. The company Spartan press releases says that it will be “a £68,000 ($78,000 USD), full carbonfiber bodied, 3.7-litersports car, weighing less than 1,100 kg and delivering 310HP with a top speed of 165 mph and a 0-60 mph time of around 4.0 seconds.”

The company declined to give away any more information other than the fact that the new car’s launch was “imminent”.

If you look at the G55 specs , you will find many similarities between the racer and Ginetta’s announcement. Therefore, it is possible that it’s a street-legal and slightly more civilized version of the G55.
