Students Receive A Tour Of The McLaren Of Rare Plants, As Part Of The British Government Initiative

A group of local students and teachers had the opportunity to visit the state of the art McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, and take a look at its manufacturing processes MP4-12C.

McLaren Automotive Factory Tour is part of the British government "Look Inside Manufacturing" campaign, and was organized in collaboration with the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills.

The initiative aims at students who were selected by a competition to design their own transport vehicle that is an issue as quickly as possible at a distance of 10 m, to see the inner workings of the engineering firms. The government wants to attract some of these young people to this area, making the "boring" in the head and the prospects for increased technical capacity in the UK.

Ron Dennis, McLaren Automotive President of the Council, which supports the initiative: "Education is located in the heart of opportunity in Britain to lead the advanced technology of the world is all of us, as employers, parents and the Board of Administration, to review young people a sense of passion for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, so. open more jobs in these areas. "

The first part of the tour consisted of young visitors and their teachers pass the "Boulevard" McLaren Racing Products.

They were then discharged, usually limited to areas of the wind tunnel, and a laboratory, where they are manufactured to the Formula 1 racing division.

Brad Fincham, a manufacturer of dynamic test engineers, both in what he said inspired him to choose their profession and what it means to be a mechanical engineer and car racing.

McLaren's head designer, Frank Stephenson later gave a rare glimpse of the new MP4-12C.

"Challenge of production McLaren is a great way for students of engineering and design," said Stephenson. "I was very impressed by the enthusiasm and dedication that the students have approached their vehicle. They have clearly done a lot of work and give to their efforts."

Bizarre recall mandates 2010 Volkswagen New Beetle models be replaced with… older cars?!

Government safety regulations are put in place to, you know, actually keep us safer. But sometimes, it seems the loopholes are big enough to drive a truck through. Okay, maybe not a truck, but definitely aVolkswagen New Beetle.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has determined that the certain examples of the aging Volkswagen Bug (both the coupe and convertible) manufactured in September 2010 failed to meet new Federal crash test requirements that went into effect that month. Reasonable enough, we suppose, as the regulations are there for a reason.

The fix? To replace the non-compliant vehicles with ones manufactured before September 1, 2010. In other words, the replacement cars still won’t meet the new safety regulations, but didn’t have to at the time of their manufacture because the rules had yet to come into force. Seriously.

The end result may not make occupants of the 27 affected units any safer, but at least they’ll be on the right side of the red tape. Follow the jump for the full recall notice.
