New Lamborghini Gallardo LP 550-2 Spyder Brings Rear-Wheel Drive to Drop-Top Model

Once upon a time, sports cars and climb to the rear wheels are synonymous terms, but no more - especially when it comes to the Volkswagen Group, which essentially has built an empire of all types of front and all-wheel-drive models.

But sometimes, even the VW group collapses has a nice rear-wheel drive. Today, the brand new Lamborghini Gallardo LP 550-2 Spyder combines the open-top body with rear-wheel drive.

"With the Gallardo LP 550-2 Spyder, Lamborghini, we extend the range with a purist model, which adds a new dimension of driving pleasure," says Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Lamborghini.

"It will be of special interest to a very special group of customers who have a strong driving style and also to experience the pleasure of open-air driving," he said.

As its name implies, the Gallardo LP 550-2 Spyder is powered by 5.2 liter V10 engine tuned to the firm produce 550 horsepower.

Lamborghini says its engineers have made significant changes to adapt the car to rear-wheel drive as parameters for the specific application of the damper and aerodynamic adjustments to take into account the change in the distribution of forces.

The Gallardo LP 550-2 Spyder tips the scales at 1520 kg (3351 lbs) and can accelerate from zero to 100 km / h (62 mph) in 4.2 seconds en route to a top speed of 319 kmh (198 mph).

Porsche’s Ferrari 458-Fighter to be Based on Next Audi R8 Platform?

By introducing a completely new 911 this year's Frankfurt Motor Show and the launch of next-generation Boxster and Cayman sports cars, set in 2012, Porsche is now considering its options for a more direct competitor for the Ferrari 458 Italy.

It will not be another variant of the 911, but a new model of central motor located between 911 and 918 Spyder to come. Porsche, with the exception of the Cayenne, use custom parts, does not share any of its components with their cousins in the VW group.

But a new car, it makes sense in economic terms - that is, to develop a new platform, it seems highly unlikely, when it is already available in a range bin VW Group shares.

As reported by Autocar, Volkswagen leaders have so far ruled out as a chassis - even if it is the preferred option by Porsche engineers, by the carbon fiber structure to be used by the next generation R8 Audi and Lamborghini Gallardo.

This forum is very similar to that used by the Audi R8 and-Tron concept. Approval of the Porsche would substantially reduce development costs and production time for that production.

However, Porsche could put his plans for a rival mid-engine Ferrari on the ice and wait to join or even lead to the development of a new platform to be used in the third generation of the Audi R8 and Lamborghini Gallardo, expected after 2020.

Swede Turns a Lamborghini Gallardo into a Ski Transporter

We'd hardly telephone the Lamborghini Gallardo –or any unique supercar for that matter- the most appropriate kind of automobile for snowboarders going from one ski location to the other, but expert freeskier and down ski speed Jon Olson powerfully doesn't agree.

The 29 year-old Swede has created a behavior of using Lamborghinis as his individual autos for driving a car a automobile to various ski situations across European countries.

He first did it with a Murcielago LP670 Superveloce that he outfitted with a ski-box, but once he put little brown eyes on the new Aventador, he marketed the unique and purchased the new Lambo. The issue was that the Aventador has a extensive ready number so he determined to buy a…Gallardo LP560 as his short-term regular generate.

Not the one to delay, Olson purchased a personalized ski box that is accepted for use at rates of speed of up to 255km/h (159mph). He then sent the car to Lambo expert DMC that created some appearance changes and to Autostripe that included the Gallardo in a cammo place.

IAA 2011: Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo Stradale in the Flesh

We were hoping to see a replacement for the Gallardo supercar in Frankfurt but instead, Lamborghini showed us yet another limited edition version of its entry-level model.

Billed as the most extreme Gallardo ever, the new LP 570-4 Super Trofeo is loosely based on the race car from the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo and will be produced in a limited run of 150 units.

The Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo Stradale has undergone a diet and lost 70kg (154 lbs) over the standard model tipping the scales at 1340kg (2,954 pounds).

Power comes from the same V10 powerplant found in the Superleggera as well as the Blancpain Super Trofeo racer, developing 570-horsepower at 8,000 rpm and 540Nm at 6,500 rpm (398.2 lb-ft). A robotized e-gear six-speed transmission controlled by steering wheel paddles transfers power to all four wheels.

It sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62mph) in 3.4 seconds and reaches 200 km/h (124mph) 10.4 seconds later while it finally tops out at 320 Km/h (199mph).

On the outside, the Super Trofeo Stradale sports a contrasting matte black finish on certain details such as the front spoiler and rear wing while it rides on ultra-lightweight 19-inch wheels that save some 13kg (29 pounds).

The rocker panel covers, rear diffuser and outside mirror housings are made of carbon fiber polished to a high gloss, while the brake calipers are accented in red, first for Lamborghini.

The two-tone theme continues in the cabin that is dressed in Alcantara and carbon fiber trims.

Lamborghini also offers an extensive list of options that will satisfy both the hardcore aficionados with carbon-fiber ceramic brake discs, a tubular interior roll cage, 4-point safety belts and fire extinguisher, as well as the casual buyer with a satellite navigation, with Bluetooth connection for mobile phones, an anti-theft system, and a lifting system that raises the front axle.
