2012 Dodge Avenger R/T Breaks Roof NYIAS Debut, Property Design And Platform Updates

After the introduction of the Challenger R / T with flavor, Journey, Durango and Grand Caravan Chicago Auto Show last February, it was just a matter of time before Dodge applied the same treatment in the Avenger sports sedan reviewed.

Ready to be presented at the International Auto Show New York this week, the 2012MY Avenger R / T gets a sportier suspension and more aggressive design cues inside and out. The power train, however, remains unchanged, with the engine of 283HP 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 linked to a six-speed automatic transmission. According to Dodge, the R / T returned 19 mpg (12.38 lt/100 km) in the city and 29 mpg (8.11 km lt/100) on the road.

What R / T differs from the rest of the range is the Avenger sports suspension. The engineers of the company increased roll stiffness by 18 percent, and rates of 17 percent from spring to the front and more than 12 percent to the rear. In addition, the tube before amortization increased 15 percent, depreciation back leg increased by nearly 20 percent, and the diameter of the rear stabilizer bar is greater than 2 mm from 19 mm to 21 mm . Dodge says these changes are reflected improved performance-oriented handling.

Aesthetically, the Avenger R / T features a grill body color, dark lights, aluminum wheels of 18 inches and the specific model stickers on front panels. Avenger rear spoiler is get an ID card and R / T. Inside, the seats are covered with a special cloth material with red stitching and leather reinforced, while the steering wheel is trimmed in perforated leather with red stitching. The instrument panel gets a center-mounted tachometer, plus SRT-inspired brake pads and the pedal.

The Avenger R / T also receives a Boston Acoustic center on top of 276-watt touch-screen entertainment with a drive of 30 gigabytes. The car will be available from the third quarter of 2011.

Spicier Dodge Avenger R/T returns for 2012

If you’re looking for an Avenger with a little more bite, Dodge may have just the car for you. The company will unveil its new Avenger R/T at the 2011 New York Auto Show this week, and though the drivetrain has been left largely untouched, the mid-sized fighter now packs a tighter suspension.

Dodge engineers managed to increase the vehicle’s roll stiffness by 18 percent thanks to upping the front spring rates by 17 percent and damper rates by 15 percent. Out back, the rear springs see an increase in stiffness of 12 percent while the back damper rates jump by 20 percent. The Avenger R/T also benefits from a larger rear stabilizer bar – 21 mm (up from 19 mm).

Dodge says it’s shooting for a more spirited, performance sedan driving experience, though there’s no indication that the vehicle’s brakes have been upgraded in kind.

Power still comes from the same torque-steer happy 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine with 283 horsepower mated to a six-speed automatic transmission, so hopefully the firmer suspension has quelled the powertrain’s wayward tendencies somewhat. Either way, Dodge says that the combo is good for 19 mpg city and 29 mpg highway.

Outside, the Avenger R/T is differentiated from its lower-trim siblings with aesthetic tweaks like a body-color grille and R/T graphics on the front fenders. Large, 19-inch alloy wheels are also standard and the interior gets a special gauge cluster with the tachometer taking center stage, along with a special perforated leather steering wheel and “SRT-inspired” pedals. Rounding off the changes are special fabric seats with embroidered logos. Hit the jump for the full press release.

Report: Chrysler’s Sebring replacement to be named Nassau

Flash back to the 2007 Detroit Auto Show and sitting on the Chrysler stand was the Nassau concept. Nothing ever came of the angular five-door, but some of the elements that debuted on the show car eventually worked their way onto the Sebring. That connection stands to be revived with a report by the Detroit Free Press that the Sebring’s replacement will carry the Nassau name when the all-new midsize sedan goes on sale within the next two years.

The concept’s sleek lines aren’t likely to inspire the Nassau, but considering Chrysler purchased the name, it’s fair game and will help to put Chrysler’s lackluster sedan out of the public consciousness.

Chrysler hasn’t official confirmed the name yet, but when the Nassau goes on sale – likely in 2012 – it will be joined by the refreshed Dodge Avenger, with a thoroughly revised interior and a choice of either a 2.4-liter four-cylinder or Chrysler’s new Pentastar V6.

Infiniti FX50 S Dressed Up in Styling Package by Brabus’ CRD Division

Here’s a proposal from this year’s Frankfurt Show that somehow managed to escape our radar. Supposedly a concept study, the Infiniti FX50 S Limited Edition was created by Car Research and Development or CRD for short, a subsidiary of the Brabus Group that works directly with automakers and their national importers. Among other cars, CRD was responsible (…) for the creation of the Dodge Avenger-based Startech Starster that appeared at the 2007 Frankfurt Show.

The Infiniti FX50 S Limited Edition show car gets a set of bespoke 21-inch turbine-design light-alloy wheels in a grey finish, while the front grille, side air inlets in the front fenders and the roof bars are also painted grey.

The luxury SUV’s cabin is upholstered in high-quality leather with contrasting light brown stitching while the carbon-fiber trim in a dark brown finish and the alcantara trim on the headliner and pillars round off the interior upgrades.

And yes, we too are wondering why Brabus / CRD even bothered to call this creation a concept study…
