New Cadillac ATS Sedan

We've been following the development of Cadillac’s all-new premium mid-size sedan for almost a year now but at long last, and after the first photos showed up online earlier today, the Detroit Motor Show-bound 2013 ATS has been officially revealed.

The design is what you'd expect from a 21st-century Cadillac, full of sharp creases and vertically stacked rear lights, with the exception of the headlights that extend back into the front fenders.

The interior offers a few surprises as well, including the instrument panel with a reconfigurable 5.7-inch display, though some of us found the center console and steering wheel bearing a passing resemblance to the Chevrolet Cruze.

Another highlight of the interior is the Cadillac's new CUE technology that pairs entertainment and information data from up to 10 Bluetooth-enabled mobile devices, USBs, SD cards and MP3 players with a vehicle infotainment system that includes an eight-inch LCD multi-touch sensitive screen.

Moving on to the Cadillac's hardware, GM stresses that the Nürburgring has been one of the ATS’ main testing grounds to ensure that its handling is more than a match for the best in its class – meaning the BMW 3-Series its German cousins.

Key features of the Cadillac’s 3-Series fighter include standard rear-wheel drive, a 2,755 mm (109.3-inch) long wheelbase, wide front and rear tracks, a near 50/50 front/rear weight distribution and the brand’s first-ever lightweight five-link rear suspension. The front also gets a multi-link suspension, while there's an available driver-adjustable FE3 sport suspension with Magnetic Ride Control real-time damping.

The ATS is equipped with a ZF variable-assist steering system, Brembo brakes and is optionally available with all-wheel drive.

Cadillac claims that its curb weight of 1,542 kg (3,400 pounds) is one of the lowest in the class. This has been achieved thanks to a “weighed” approached that resulted in the ATS having an aluminum hood, magnesium engine mount brackets, lightweight and natural-fiber door trim panels.

“More than just another new entry, the ATS aims to change the status quo of the European-dominated segment”, said Don Butler, Cadillac’s vice president of marketing. “For a new group of luxury consumers, this is a car that will fit their lifestyle and challenge the segment’s status quo. That is why our approach in all elements of its development is so extensive and focused.”

Buyers of the ATS will be able to choose between three all-aluminum, direct injection gasoline engines.

These include a base 2.5-liter naturally aspirated four with 200HP and 255Nm (188 lb-ft), a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 270HP and 353Nm (260 lb-ft) of torque, and a 3.6-liter V6 with an output of 318HP and 362Nm (267 lb-ft) of torque. All engines can be combines with a 6-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission.

Pricing and fuel economy figures will be released closer to the ATS's launch date this summer.

Facelifted 2013 Toyota Land Cruiser 5.7 V8 Announced for the U.S

As we anticipated, after the December launch of the updated 2012 Land Cruiser 200 in its home market of Japan, Toyota has announced details on the North American version that will go on sale in the States as a 2013 model later this year.

While Toyota's U.S. arm released photos of the European specification model, the same styling changes apply for the 2013 Land Cruiser that will be sold here and which we will most likely have the chance to see for the first time at next week's Detroit Auto Show.

Beginning with the exterior, the Land Cruiser gains an updated front grille and headlamps with HID low-beams and LED Daytime Running Lights, enlarged front and rear fenders, chrome side moldings, and redesigned outer side mirrors and tail lamps.

The revised model rides on newly designed 18-inch alloy wheels with a high-gloss finish that are shod in P285/60 R18 mud-and-snow steel-belted radial tires.

Inside, Toyota refined the interior of its eight-seater model with a higher gloss wood grain finish, brighter silver instrument panel ornamentation, chrome-plated air registers and updated meter-cluster lighting.

New features for the 2013 model include: a Multi-terrain Monitor with front, side or rear selectable views; a redesigned Multi-information Display; an Eco Driving Indicator light and zone display; heated steering wheel; Dynamic Radar Cruise Control; an additional power outlet (DC 12V) at the rear of the center console; and an AC 120V rear cargo deck power outlet.

There's good news for those that like their vehicles well equipped as the Japanese company decided to make all previously optional safety and convenience features standard.

These include the rear-seat DVD entertainment system, color-keyed rear spoiler, rain-sensing windshield wipers, center-console cooler box, headlamp cleaners, leather-trimmed steering wheel and shift lever, multi-information display, voice and Bluetooth hands-free controls, and heated second row seats plus Toyota’s Premium Hard Disk Drive (HDD) Navigation with Entune multi-media system and JBL audio.

While the Land Cruiser continues with the 5.7-liter V8 engine that produces 381 horsepower and 401 lb-ft of torque, linked to a six-speed automatic transmission, the Japanese brand has made changes to the 4x4's various electronic systems.

New for the 2013MY is a Multi-terrain Select system that dials in wheel slip control to match the conditions of the terrain. For example, in loose terrain such as mud and sand, the system allows for more wheel slip than normal while on solid rock, wheel slip is minimized with the system acting more like a limited slip differential.

Toyota also introduced a new five-speed CRAWL Control with an Off-Road Turn Assist feature.

The CRAW Control system is activated when the transfer case is shifted into low range regulating engine speed and output along with braking force to help the driver on extremely rough level ground or steep grades. As for the Off-Road Turn Assist feature, it pulses the rear corner brakes to help the 4x4 make sharper turns when steering through tight quarters on rugged terrain.

Finally, there's a new four-wheel multi-terrain anti-lock braking system while Toyota has added a Trailer Sway Control to the standard equipment of the Land Cruiser.

Fox Marketing Building 400-HP Nissan Juke Special

Nissan UK's move to shoehorn the GT-R's twin-turbocharged V6 and all-wheel drive system into the conceptual Juke-R may have very well opened Pandora's box giving independent tuning firms the confidence and a motive to create their own hi-po versions of the Japanese brand's small crossover.

Fox Marketing just announced that it's working on a new tune for the Nissan Juke that will be introduced in the coming months as part of the celebrations for the company's 12th year of creating custom cars.

"When we first saw the Nissan Juke-R that Nissan UK built, we where blown away," said the tuner. "But, to build a vehicle like the Juke-R you are talking a seven figure build budget."

So what was Fox Marketing's answer to this problem? The tuner decided to heavily modify the Juke's standard powertrain with the 1.6-liter engine gaining a huge turbo/intercooler upgrade pushing output to 400 horsepower.

Along with the engine, Fox Marketing says it will also add a new brake system with 14inch 6 piston calipers, 20-inch wheels and a more aggressive aero package plus some interior improvements such as the Yonaka Ronin racing seats up front.
