2012 Chevy Corvette Revealed The Wild Daytona Prototype



General Motors has welcomed a new member in their family of race cars with the introduction of the 2012 Chevy Corvette prototype Daytona that was unveiled Tuesday at Daytona International Speedway.

The race model makes use of the Grand-Am, new rules allow more freedom for manufacturers to present their concept of the brand.

The purpose built Daytona Prototype Corvette takes many styling cues from ZR1 production, mainly in the front, and to a lesser extent, certain elements of the greenhouse effect and the rear.

"IMSA GTP prototype Corvette campaign for Hendrick Motorsports in the 80's was the inspiration for the new Chevrolet Corvette Daytona Prototype," said Mark Kent, director of GM Racing. "And as the Corvette GTP, the new Corvette Daytona Prototype includes a series of stylistic clues Street version of the Chevrolet Corvette."

The prototype was developed by Chevrolet, Corvette designers, and Pratt & Miller Grand-Am, while the chassis manufacturer Riley, Dallara and Coyote, also contributed their knowledge.

GM said four campaign teams Corvette Daytona Prototype 2012-No. 90 Spirit of Daytona Racing, SunTrust Racing No. 10, No. 99 GAINSCO / Bob Stallings Racing and the No. 5 and 9 teams Express racing action.

The prototype will debut race on the track in a Grand-Am race at Daytona International Speedway, Wednesday, November 16, with its racing debut will take place in the 50th year of Grand-Am Rolex Road Racing Series 24, from Daytona 26-29 January 2012.

New 2012 Toyota Camry to Serve as the Official Pace Car at DAYTONA 500



The just-revealed 2012 Toyota Camry sedan will be the first Japanese vehicle and the second non-American model to pace a Daytona 500 race since the series started in 1959.

The Camry you see pictured above and below will serve as the official pace cat at next year's event which kicks-off the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season on February 26 at the Daytona International Speedway.

“We’re thrilled to be able to feature the new Camry in Daytona at the season’s biggest race,” said Ed Laukes, Toyota corporate manager of motorsports marketing.

“We think the DAYTONA 500 is the perfect place to showcase the all-new Camry -- which will go on sale this fall. We knew when the opportunity arose to partner together with Daytona that it would be an extraordinary way to highlight our new Camry, as well as reinforce Toyota’s commitment to NASCAR and its fans,” Laukes added.
