Skoda Commences Road Tests of its First Pure Electric Vehicle

After the production of a fleet of 10 electrically powered Octavia Green E Line models last fall, Skoda is entering the second phase of its EV project as it commenced road tests around the Czech city of MladĂ  Boleslav, which is located about 50 km northeast of Prague.

The company's goal is to gain practical experience with electric propulsion in real life conditions as it prepares for the presentation of an actual production model.

The Octavia Green E Line was introduced as a concept at the 2010 Paris Motor Show. It is based on the Octavia Combi swapping the regular model's internal combustion engine for an electric powertrain that comprises of an electric motor developing a maximum output of 85kW (114HP) and 270Nm (199.2 lb-ft) of constant torque, and a lithium-ion battery.

The Czech automaker says that the Octavia Green E Line can accelerate from zero to 100km/h (62mph) in 12 seconds and reach a top speed of 135 km/h (84 mph). The batteries offer a driving range of around 150km (93 miles).

Skoda's All-Electric Octavia Green E Line

The edition of this year's Paris Motor Show will see the VW group successful brand Skoda has unveiled its first electric-powered vehicle called the Green Line Octavia E. Skoda says it plans to create a special test fleet of Octavia Green Line E in 2011 in order to obtain further information relevant to the further development of electric propulsion.

The concept is based on the series production of the Octavia Combi [real estate], and is powered by an electric motor to produce a continuous output of 60 kW / 80 hp and a maximum power of 85 kW / 114 hp and 270Nm torque about 199 pounds -ft is available from the beginning.

Pure electric Octavia accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h (62 mph) in twelve seconds, top speed of the car is limited to 135 km / h (84 mph).

Electricity to the motor is powered by a pack of 26.5 kWh battery that consists of 180 lithium-ion cells, which weighs about 315 kg or 695 pounds and is located in the middle and posterior part of the floor covering partially in the trunk.

Skoda says the battery has "almost no impact" on the volume of passengers and the trunk of the Octavia Combi.

At full capacity, the battery is said to offer a range of about 140 km or mile 87.

Paris Show concept will be completed in the Pearl white exterior and have shiny black roof with integrated energy source of solar panels.
