FAB Design Cloaks the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Convertible in a Wide Body Kit

Over the years, we've seen some pretty crude creations from Swiss tuning house FAB Design including an atrocious-looking Cadillac Escalade for a North African client.

But once in a while, FAB Design comes up with a tune that we could live with such as its new offering for the latest Mercedes-Benz E-Class Convertible series.

The Swiss firm has developed a wide body kit for the open top model that includes a new front bumper featuring different openings along with wider front and rear fenders, matching rocker panels with air vents, a boot lid spoiler and a restyled rear bumper housing a diffuser and the new exhaust pipes.

The four-seater Merc is also fitted with new 20-inch alloys wrapped around beefy tires while hardware changes are limited to a lowered sports suspension and a new exhaust system with an integrated valve control that allows the driver to choose between a sonorous and a discrete sound.

2014 Ford F-150 Rumored to Make Extensive Use of Aluminum Body Panels

For decades, America's best-selling pickup trucks turned a collective blind eye to what were foreseeable technological advances in most areas of their construction as Detroit's Big Three preferred simple solutions that significantly hiked up their profit margins.

However, these past few years, automakers like GM, Ford and Chrysler are slowly trying to modernize their trucks mostly in the name of fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions, especially now that the U.S. Corporate Average Fuel-Economy standards are getting stricter.

We've already seen some advances on the engine front including the availability of Ford's EcoBoost V6 on the F-150 and GM’s hybrid lineup, but there's more to come in different areas than you'd normally expect.

Citing two independent sources, Ward's Auto reported that Ford’s next-generation F-Series full-size pickup truck, code-named P552, will feature extensive use of aluminum body panels including doors and fenders. This will be a first for the F-Series as in the current model, only the hood is crafted from the lightweight material.

While Ford declined to comment on the matter, Doug Scott, the Detroit company's truck marketing manager told the news site that the Blue Oval is always looking for ways to improve its vehicles.

“We know our customers, and it’s all about the truck being a tool and they want it to be more productive and more efficient,” said Scott. “So we have to keep moving the needle if we want to be king of hill. We’re always looking at all the ways of doing that going forward and we have a great strategy.”

Ford's produce chief Derrick Kuzak has previously said that the company plans to shed up to 700 lbs. (318 kg) per model before 2019.

The extensive use of aluminum panels would help Ford shave several pounds off the next F-150 and in turn allow for lighter components in other areas.

"When vehicles weigh less you may need a smaller engine, or the brakes you need are going to be different, and that goes throughout the entire vehicle,” Kevin Lowery, spokesman for aluminum supplier Alcoa, told Wards Auto.

The next generation of the F-150 is scheduled for launch in 2014.

Delavilla's Widebody Porsche Cayman R1

It's not often that we get to see the house take on tuning French German sports cars, so when we came across Delaville-prepped Porsche Cayman R1 immediately attracted our attention.

One of the lesser known tuners in France, Delaville was established in 2007 and focuses exclusively on Porsche models that currently provides comprehensive programs for the Cayman and the cut 911. The company says it also works in the air for the Speedster, the Cayenne SUV and Panamera sedan, with details to be published at a later date.

Back to the Cayman-based model R1 was unveiled at the 2011 Coupe International Motor Show in Lyon last month, proposing a major overhaul with a variety of exterior upgrades of power.

The obvious external change begins with a wide body kit that includes front bumper and rear spoiler and side panels, which adds 120 mm (4.7 inches) to the total width of the front and the Cayman Islands 180 mm ( 7.1 inches) in the rear.

Cars can also be tailored set of quad exhaust pipes and LED daytime running lights and large alloy wheels multispoke are the same color of the body.

Delaville states offering different options, scissor-style doors for fingerprint recognition system, open the hood.

Inside, the house tuning French adds a pair of bucket seats with Alcantara trim on the steering wheel and shifter.

Buyers can choose between three different power series, which increase the production of 340HP, 385HP and 420HP, while the most effective option is only for people like you are going to use the car on the track racing.
