New Ford Shelby GT500 Packs a Monstrous 650HP and has a Top Speed in Excess of 200MPH

Now you've read about the redesigned Mustang, including 302 high-performance versions Boss and Laguna Seca. There is nothing in comparison with every Ford Shelby GT500 plans to deploy the Los Angeles Auto Show on Wednesday.

Powered by what Ford claims to be the world's most powerful engine for the V8, the GT500 packs at least 650 horsepower and 600 lb-ft of torque.

It's not a misprint: the 5.8-liter supercharged V8 has 41 more horsepower than the McLaren F1, rather than the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 24, and an incredible 70 more than the Lamborghini Murcielago LP 640. On the negative side, which falls short of a Ferrari Enzo pony.

A top speed of over 200 mph (320 km / h) should allow you to deal with almost everything on the road, a bar or a Veyron Koenigsegg.

"SVT Shelby GT500 to be at the forefront of technology, and performance muscle car door to the next level," said Jost Capito, director of Ford's global performance vehicles and Motorsport Business Development.

"We are all housed in the performance of this car - whether it's 00-60, high-speed track or quarter mile times, also, you will also find a daily driver this car is perfect for his needs.".

To achieve these figures, Capito and his team have updated the V8 engine with care by installing a new compressor TVS 2300 that feeds more air into the engine block and cylinder head and camshaft profile drilled to date .

This engine is to create a large amount of heat. Therefore, the cooling system has been significantly updated and has a larger fan, fan, which is a fast decompression device ports, more powerful air charge cooler, higher pump flow intercooler and intercooler heat exchanger is increased by 36%.

Ford's engineers wanted to ensure that the power Shelby really makes the rear wheels and not ruin the rest of the powertrain. Then they upgraded with dual disc clutch shaft, and installed a new drive shaft made of carbon fiber.

After testing more than 35 combinations of transmission of the six-speed manual transmission, they finally made their decision. The new box has reinforced gears, bearings and housing to handle the massive torque. It can be expected in view of the performance: What is surprising is that the selected transmission allows the Shelby GT500 to be exempt from gas guzzler tax ...

"It may seem that we are just a bigger engine in the car. But it was a balanced approach from start to finish," said Jamal Hameed, chief engineer of SVT. "We have completely rebuilt the car to be more sophisticated in terms of management and control than the previous model. "

First, with such speed that sure as hell want to make sure it is on track and off. Therefore, the GT500 offers new support for more than 33% over the 2011 model through the great changes that have optimized the air drag and a higher minimum support dramatically.

You also want to catapult your car 650HP from detention, and not just sit there and chop behind the Eagle F1 Supercar tires Goodyear G pieces. OSF developed by Launch Control, which is integrated in both the control and traction control system takes care of this problem. At some point, you should be killed also, and new Brembo brakes larger discs on all four corners and six-piston calipers front brake make sure you can.

Now that we have verified the performance, technology and boxes braking. Did we miss something? Ah, yes: the problem is not so little grip.

"We took a very different approach to this car so that drivers can choose the settings instead of the computer makes the choice," says Hamid. "Almost every interaction with the system can be adapted to their situation, including Bilstein adjustable electronic suspension, Launch Control, AdvanceTrac and the steering level."

This means that you can keep the electronic aids to give you peace of mind, choose a temporary condition for some shenanigans while maintaining a safety net, or completely disable all systems and sharpening your pants to prove your skills conduct.

Those who want more can order the kit that includes a Torsen limited-slip performance differences, or go all the way with the option package. The last option includes three separate coolers for engine oil, rear differential and transmission cooler and the prevention of these critical components from overheating in extreme driving.

We can not distract Enzo thingy: M. Capito, next time be sure to find an extra two horses. It should not be that hard. And I could brag that their car is more powerful than Enzo.

Shelby builds 1000+ rwhp twin-turbo GT500 prototype

There’s so much going on at SEMA it’s all-too easy to miss a few things. And while there are a ton of Mustangs, one would think that this Shelby prototype would have caught our attention – particularly since we were aware of its existence. Back in September we reported that on some potential future Shelby models, one of which was a 1,000 rwhp twin-turbo GT500.

Nicknamed “Code Red,” this particular GT500 was created in collaboration between Shelby American and Nelson Racing Engines – the same firm responsible for the 1,800 horsepower Mosler MT900S. The heavily modified 5.4-liter V8 features twin 61mm Turbonetics turbochargers along with a dual fuel system that includes cells for both race and street gas as well as an electronic boost controller that can vary boost for each gear.

If Shelby offers a production of the “Code Red” GT500, expect plenty of other goodies to be included like Baer 14-inch brakes, Shelby/Eibach adjustable suspension system, 9-inch Currie rear end, 10-point roll cage, and plenty more? Price tag? Shelby estimates that the package (car not included) would cost around $100,000.

You can get a better look at the Code Red from the photos below courtesy of Nelson Racing Engines, and we’ve also included a video with Tom Nelson and Shelby’s Gary Patterson testing the car out on the streetafter the jump.

Shelby loses court battle to trademark Cobra shape

Shelby and Factory Five Racing have been going at it for years. Back in 2000, Shelby filed suit against the Massachusetts-based replica builder, which resulted in Factory Five being allowed to continue building cars as long as it made no reference to the terms “Cobra,” “427 S/C,” “Shelby,” “Shelby Cobra,” “Daytona Coupe” or “Daytona Coupe Cobra.” Eight years of apparent peace passed until Shelby again filed suit against FFR because the company felt that the the replica builder’s Type 65 Coupe name was too close to its Shelby Daytona Coupe. The court ruled in favor of Factory Five.

The two companies went back to court a third time because Shelby recently attempted to patent the shape of the Cobra. Well, the case has been settled and the result is yet effectively another victory for Factory Five Racing. The United States Trademark Trial and Appeal Board felt that the shape of the Cobra does not solely belong to Carroll Shelby. Factory Five had the following to say:

“On October 13th, 2010, the court denied his application and our opposition was successful. We felt that if he were to get a trademark on the Cobra shape, his PR machine would use that to make the legitimate replica industry look bad. Our position was that a Shelby trademark would have ignored the factual history of the car, which started life as an AC car with a Ford engine in it, as well as completely discounting the huge contributions that replica guys have made to the car’s continuing legacy since the 1970′s. We have never denied Shelby’s part in history, but he has enjoyed huge popularity, in-part, due to replicas.

Looking back, our little company has done more than anyone ever to secure this car for all. Factory Five Racing and our customers have made such a huge contribution to the industry over the years.

I am attaching the Court’s opinion as a PDF document here so you can read it for yourself. Factory Five Racing does not use the word COBRA to describe our products.”
