Mazda CX-5 to Use "Super-Strong" Bumpers Starting with the 2012



All future models including the Mazda CX-5 compact crossover is due to its worldwide launch in early 2012 will be equipped with "super strong" steel beams, the company announced this week.

The new ultra-high steel is estimated 1,800 MPa and was developed as part of the program SKYACTIV Mazda technology. Steel rods fit in the front and rear bumpers. According to Mazda, the bars are 20 percent stronger, but also 4.8 kilos (10.5 pounds) lighter than previous versions.

However, is that the strongest are generally flexible and uses less energy in a collision, the Mazda has also revised the buffer beams. The new design is said to absorb energy more efficiently, while maintaining the strength of steel.

Lightweight steel design was developed in collaboration with Futaba Kogyo Co., Ltd, which will also production processes.

IAA 2011: European Debut for the 2012 Mazda3 Facelift



Making its European debut alongside the all-new CX-5 compact crossover in Frankfurt is the facelift version of the Mazda3.

The updated C-segment model, which is available in both four-door sedan and five-door hatchback derivatives, features some minor cosmetic touches in the form of a reworked front end with a different bumper and grille design, new alloy wheels and a restyled rear bumper.

Inside, the Japanese company claims that the Mazda3 is now an even nicer place to be thanks to the use of higher quality materials and new colors, improved ease-of-use for the driver, new equipment and a quieter cabin.

The updated Mazda3 retains the same engine lineup as before including four petrols and three diesels paired to either a six or a five-speed manual, or a five-speed automatic transmission.
