After confirmation of the development of a diesel version of the Chevrolet Cruze sedan sold well in the U.S. market earlier this year showed today that General Motors, the car will be built at its plant in Lordstown, Ohio, with sales to begin in early 2013.

GM spokesman Tom Mock said The Detroit News that the company will invest $ 5500000 to renovate the body shop of the factory and general meeting. The same factory also produces gasoline versions of the Cruze, which was a great success for GM sells better than anything in its segment, including the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla.

Detroit-based automaker has not yet provided any information on the Cruze diesel engines that are offered in the United States.

In Europe, Chevrolet offers the compact sedan with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder diesel that produces 163 horsepower at 3,800 rules and 360 Nm (265.5 lb-ft) of torque at 1,750 rpm, with a choice of 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions.

With this engine, Cruze offers a combined fuel economy on the European cycle (remember, these figures are not directly comparable to estimates from the LFS) 5.2 lt/100km [42mpg U.S.] for the manual model and 6.3lt/100km [37.3mpg U.S.] for the automatic. The model also refers 4.4lt/100km manual (53.5mpg U.S.) on the highway.

Currently, the Cruze's most fuel efficient available in states that are Eco-model has a six-speed manual transmission with an EPA rating of 42 mpg (equivalent to 5.6lt/100km) on the highway.
