2011 NYIAS: New Scion FR-S Concept Brings Sexy Back to the FT-86

The model most anticipated New York Auto Show, the Scion version of the Toyota FT-86 Concept sports coupe at last had its world premiere today. The study is called FR-S, which means "front-engine, rear-wheel drive, sport," but we prefer the definition given by Jack Hollis, Scion vice president, during the presentation of the new Hall of New York.

"FR-S stands for the front-engine rear-drive sports ... .... Very simple. I personally think it should stand for friggin 'sweet ... but the legal department, Toyota does not feel the same way "said Hollis.

The first thing many readers will notice on the FR-S is a sophisticated design concept since the last version of the Toyota FT-86, is shown in Geneva last March. Although it is difficult to identify all the changes side by side without a car, the photos reveal a fine line with the front headlamps and a revised bumper design otherwise, without after-market add-ons like the strips of LEDs.

Looking at the profile of the court, we see to support more robust and heavily sculpted rear fenders and more and new side mirrors, alloy wheels larger with a different design. In addition, the FT-86 II is blind openings wings were removed.

As for the rear, the interpretation of the FT-86 Scion has a new rear fascia design with a prominent ditch the beginning of the tuner-esque wing taillights and a different rear diffuser impressive. Other changes include the roof, which is projected on the rear windshield.

The end result is a much more aggressive and smoother than the FT-86 II. Now, here's hoping that Scion will not be surprising in the most important auto show in the States with an FR-S II study ...

As expected, says the production version of the Scion FR-S, which will continue in 2102, will be equipped with 2.0-liter boxer engine from Subaru as the same model Toyota. However, the company revealed that the engine of four planes that make up the injection system Toyota D4-S, which uses direct injection and port, resulting in more power and torque throughout the curve MPG without sacrificing power - or at least that's what the company says.
