The New York International Auto Show hosts the world premiere of the fourth generation of the Subaru Impreza, presented in two 4-door and 5 door body styles. Developed under the Subaru concept of "Class redefines redefining value," the new Impreza is the fuel that supposedly more efficient and fun to drive, while offering more interior space, despite the same external dimensions as the model out .
The wheelbase has been extended by 25 mm, the lower end of the pillar has been widened from 200 mm to the front door and the structure has been redesigned, with all the resulting changes in the shoulder more space and room for the additional rear passenger foot and a better field of vision for the driver. Of course, the cargo space is more important in the Subaru sedan that can carry four golf bags, while the sedan can accommodate three.
Mechanically, the basic models of the United States are pulling Subaru Boxer engine and Symmetrical third generation 2.0-liter mated to a 5-speed manual transmission or the new Lineartronic continuously variable transmission.
Rated at 148 horsepower (22 less than the previous model's 2.5-liter unit) and 145 lb.-ft. (197 Nm) of torque, the smaller engine reached a preliminary rating of the fuel consumption of 36 mpg (6, 5 l/100 km), a record for a car in the U.S. market AWD production. This is also due to lower vehicle weight (1,320 kg / 2910 lbs), standard tires and aerodynamics, low rolling resistance.
Subaru says the exterior styling follows the "Chic & Smart" concept, with the result being a stylish look but a little understated. Emphasizes the style of the car include the hexagonal network with spread wings in the center, "Hawk Eye" headlights and prominent wheel arches, the latter is a reference to the four-wheel drive capability.
The new Impreza interior seems to be inspired by German car, with ergonomically placed buttons and a typical configuration. The three-spoke steering wheel and the speedometer and tachometer rings add a touch of sportiness, but nothing to get excited about. Subaru did not offer details on pricing and launch dates.
