Eco-marathon, the winner would normally expect a hybrid, diesel or other cars usually very cheap and underpowered. Well, Fleet World MPG Marathon champion had 431 horses well kicking and screaming to be unleashed the hood.
It reads: 6.2-liter LS3 V8 VXR8 - essentially a rebadged Holden HSV and Vauxhall in the UK market, won the two-day trial of the economy of 350 miles.
How did this happen? There is a simple explanation: the price has not been given to more fuel-efficient vehicles in absolute terms, but have been an improvement in the highest percentage on the official fuel consumption.
Vauxhall's super-fast was driven by Top Gear Online editor, Chris Mooney, while Vauxhall archivist and eco-driving expert, Andrew Duerden, occupied the passenger seat.
Mooney was able to improve VXR8 official fuel consumption of 21.0 mpg (equivalent to 13.4 km or 17.5mpg U.S. lt/100) in the UK 53%, it drops to 32.14 British mpg (8.8 liters / 100 km or 26.7 mpg U.S.).
"It just shows that the person behind the wheel can make a huge difference to fuel costs and carbon emissions," said Mooney. "And, of course, a 6.2-liter V8 is a great choice sound engine in the right hand. "
